DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY

The Department of Chemistry started its journey since inception of the college. Honours Course in Chemistry started in the year 1969. Since then it is the pioneer Department of North Bengal as well as of Assam and other north-eastern states. Eminent scientists and teachers served this Department rich enough to hold the academic backbone of any institute. Recently University of North Bengal selected as the centre for practical Examination of Undergraduate honours course and carrying on with a commendable success.

Learning Resources of the dept.:

Library: Apart from the central library there is a rich departmental library consisting of 200 books exclusively for Honours. Students.

Computer: One computer with Printer and internet facilities is available with the department.

Laboratory: Well equipped distinct separate laboratories(Organic, Inorganic, Physical and Analytical) as well as separate laboratory for General Studies are available.

Other resources: Over head projector, models and charts are the other learning resources of the department.

Participation of the teachers in academic and personal counseling of the students:

Academic counseling is arranged before the admission of a student in this department, guiding them to choose proper subject out of various options available. After admission this counseling process continues to guide the students through every stage of their academic advancement. The teachers of this department frequently sit with the students to discuss the academic strength and weakness of the student concern, and advice them in selection proper text books and advanced reference books.

Teachers of this department offer regular counseling about career opportunities in academic, administrative and professional sectors. Students are exposed to the environments of professional work through excursion, field training and seminars. The teachers also take initiative for introducing the students prospective employers and recommended their CV for consideration.
